Part of the second largest coral reef system in the world and housed amidst white sandy beaches and clear turquoise blue waters, the Belize Barrier Reef is an attraction like none else if you wish to pay a visit to the Caribbean this holiday season.

Despite its amazing proximity to the US, the Belize Barrier Reef is not a destination that is yet as popular as it could be.

That makes the 300 km long stretch of underwater coral brilliance all the more alluring as you will not really have too many people pushing you around for the best spot.

Despite having 260,000 tourists visit it annually, Belize still has plenty of room for everyone, and described as the most vibrant, astonishing and amazing underwater collection of reef ecosystem, the Belize Barrier is among the best visual delights in the world.
The reef is largely protected by the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System and includes seven marine reserves, 450 cays, and three atolls with over 106 species of hard and soft coral and 500 species of fish.
The best part of this magical world under water is that only 10% of all species at Belize Barrier Reef have been uncovered, meaning you could scuba dive right into a new creature that has never been known before!
As you visit the Belize reef, do not miss the day long trip to the Great Blue Hole which lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, which is a hole that’s circular in shape, over 1,000 feet across and 400 feet deep.
The spot is considered by pros as one of ‘the best’ for scuba diving on the planet. Formed because of a limestone cave system during the last ice age, a trip into this marine marvel is a once in a lifetime experience for sure. Hol Chan Marine Reserve is famous for its Shark Ray Alley, a shallow sandy-bottomed area inside the reef, which is traditionally a gathering place for sharks and stingrays.

Tourism is the largest industry in Belize, and that is no coincidence as this tropical-styled paradise with its pristine blue waters, amazing coral formations, brimming marine life, spectacular sandy beaches and is a great way to get away from your mundane life and recharge your senses.

If you are looking for a Christmas vacation that is close to the US and will give you memories of a lifetime, then you need not look beyond the beautiful Belize Barrier Reef.
