Even in tough economic times, people need to take breaks and a skiing trip is one of the best types of getaways during the winter months. There are a number of skiing destinations that can help take the bite out of one’s pocketbook though. Here are 10 top budget ski destinations for 2009.
Denver, Colorado – With the dollar falling fast and countries looking to diversify to other currencies, the United States has a lot of offer skiers. Take advantage of low exchange rates and big discounts offered by resorts trying to lure in customers in a tough economy. Shop around for the best incentives and you will find your Rocky Mountain high.

Tremblant, Canada – Located in French-speaking Montreal, you will say “oui,” when you receive your very reasonable bills at this ski destination. The people here are friendly and there are plenty of things to do when you are not skiing the slopes. One popular alternative is to visit the La Source aqua club, a great place for the whole family.

Levi, Lapland – Lapland is associated with Santa Claus and his reindeer, and it is a natural haven for skiers, especially those looking for great value on their money. Located in the nation that recently made broadband internet a legal right, Levi is a winter wonderland where one can avoid big crowds and big prices. Take the whole family and enjoy a reindeer safari when you need a break from the slopes.

Andorra – Andorra is a tiny principality located between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains. Three big resorts in this mountain land – Arinsal, Pasa de la Casa and Soldeu – can offer great budget prices because the Andorran government does not charge any taxes. There is a vast stretch of skiing area here and when you are not skiing you can enjoy tax free shopping.

Krvavec, Slovenia – Eastern Europe outside of the Euro zone is one of the best places to find deals on ski getaways. The resort at Krvavec is very close to the city airport. In fact everything at this destination is conveniently located and very easy on the budget.

Gressoney, Italy – Nestled in the Italian Alps, Gressoney is a wonderful location with plenty of slopes and small crowds. The scenery here will make you think you’re in the North Pole and the prices are equally remote from the more expensive ski resorts. One recommended location is the Gabiet Refuge, where you can enjoy a skiing holiday at a very affordable price.

Scotland – Another great budget option for those in Britain as one does not need to spend so much money on travel costs. Although it may be cheap, make sure to check the weather first to make sure there is plenty of snow on the ground.

Megeve, France – A great choice for bargain-hunters from Britain, who can reach this resort by car and save a lot of money in the process. You could even sleep in your car, but you will probably be tempted by the great accommodations available in the area. Megeve is picture postcard perfect, so don’t forget your camera!

Borovets, Bulgaria – A great location for the whole family, this Alpine destination has plenty of snow and is the largest and oldest ski resort in Bulgaria. The prices here make Borovets a great value for a skiing vacation.

Last but not least …
Russia – With a vast amount of territory located in the northern latitudes, Russia not surprisingly has many great skiing areas to offer. Although it may not be cheap to fly to Russia, prices there have always been low. One of the places you can visit is Dombay. Great snow!
