5. Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci – Milan, Italy

Located in a 16^th century Olivetan monastery, the museum features an impressive collection of Leonardo da Vinci’s most interesting designs. It opened in 1953 and, over the years, it has become Italy’s largest science and technology museum.

At the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci visitors learn more about the life of one of the most brilliant minds of the Renaissance and actually touch some of the objects and machinery he designed. The museum seeks to arouse interest in science, by involving its visitors in interactive experiments.

4. Heureka – Vantaa, Finland

The main purpose of the Heureka Science Center is to make access to scientific knowledge easier for adults and children alike. Most of its over 200 exhibits are interactive and help visitors understand scientific phenomena by observing and experiencing them first hand.

Heureka features exhibitions about the complexity of the human body, the interesting laws of physics and seemingly inexplicable natural occurrences. Children have a chance to learn about the beneficial effects of daily exercise, at the Move and Play Exhibition, or create their own fantasy creatures, by attaching 36 magnetic sculptures to each other, any way they like, at the Curious Creatures Exhibition.

Visitors can produce energy and make paper with their own hands, while 5-12-year-old children perform chemical experiments, assisted by specialists. Heureka also offers a unique 500-square-meters planetarium, which displays digital panoramic films. The Magnet Shop, located inside the science center, features wonderful gifts that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.

3. Nemo – Amsterdam, Netherlands

Nemo museum is the largest science center in the Netherlands and one of the most interesting scientific establishments in the world. Much like at Heureka, visitors have a chance to experience science first hand at Nemo.

Nemo is located inside a five-story building designed by Renzo Piano. The first floor concentrates on DNA and chain reactions, and features exhibits like giant dominoes, a flying car and a giant bell. The second floor is actually a plastic-ball factory, where visitors get involved by sticking bar codes on the balls and sending them on their way to the packing facility.

The third and fourth floors of the Nemo science center are probably the most fascinating. On the third floor, people take part in chemical experiments, like mixing vitamin C with other substances, while on the fourth floor they can take a trip inside the human mind. Here they can test their memory and senses and solve mind problems.

2. CORPUS – Amsterdam, Netherlands

How much do you know about your body? Probably not as much as you think, but don’t worry, everything will be revealed at the CORPUS Museum.

Inaugurated on March 14, 2008, by Queen Beatrix herself, the CORPUS Museum takes its visitors on a journey through the human body. It uses the latest technology, including 3D animation, state of the art imagery and sound, to show and explain the actions of the human body.

CORPUS Museum offers a lot of educational information, including answers to seemingly simple questions like “why do we sleep?” or “how does hair grow?” and shows the benefits of living a healthy, balanced life. CORPUS is the only place on Earth where you can actually see, feel and hear how the body works.

One of the largest museums in the world, the American Museum of Natural History is made up of 25 interconnected buildings and houses 32 million specimens. For obvious reasons, only a part of these items can be on display at any one time.

This is the only place where you can find a life-size model of a Blue Whale, a 31-ton piece of the Cape York meteorite (the largest meteorite on display, in the world), or the largest star sapphire on Earth, the Star of India. With a wide array of exhibits, ranging from dinosaurs to marine life to outer space, the only thing you have to worry about is what to see first.
