Exotic Destination: The Island of Corsica, France

One of the most beautiful and exotic destinations in the world, Corsica is its own private paradise hidden within the Mediterranean Sea.

Anyone who longs to escape from the ordinary hassles of the world and visit this enchanting island will instantly be transported into a dreamy haze where limestone cliffs capped with citadels rise high above topaz seas with crystal sandy shores, lush landscapes transcend down from dramatic snow crested mountains, and the fragrant tropical breeze flows through charming villages.

It’s not difficult to understand why the island of Corsica has become an idealistic holiday spot, but more interestingly this is not all it has on offer. There are a variety of activities, historic landmarks, architectural antiquities, and restaurants throughout Corsica, and depending on your location there are even discos and good nightlife.

Corsica is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte so naturally in his name there is a history museum. For the art lover  though, there are several delightful art museums as well. Exploring the many historical landmarks will reveal the visible traces of an ancient civilization, so how about a visit to the Menbir Statues in Filitosa or some time to see those ancient churches — even though Corsica is French territory there are many Italian churches that provide a glimpse into the history of the beautiful surrounding architecture.

Corsica has the perfect climate all year round. Since it’s an island, naturally, water sports are a favorite activity — you can go windsurfing, sailing, fishing, and swimming, or snorkeling and diving to see the plentiful exotic marine life. Canoeing or rafting is also possible in many of the rivers and water rapids, while one of the most “glorious” things you can do is to go swimming in one of those beautiful waterfalls.

Of course, there are other activities for land lovers such as hiking on the GR20 or ‘Fra li Monte’; a footpath spanning the length of Corsica from North to South. The Iles Sanguinaires is an excellent spot for a relaxing day of sightseeing. Take the time to explore and you may even discover some of the secluded swimming areas which would be a special treat on a Corsican summer day.

After exploring the bountiful adventures it’s time to explore Corsica’s delectable cuisine. The island is well known for its wines throughout the world so try visiting the region’s vineyards in Bastia and later dine on a meal of appetizing seafood, smoked sausages, or wild boar.  The traditional mouthwatering cuisine prepared in Corsica is goat slow roasted in herbs, but if you’re not game for goat, you can taste pastas and pizzas, too.

To summarize the whole deal, Corsica is a romantic, lavish utopia capable of transporting a common lifestyle into a reality of enchanting pleasantries. Its without question why so many holiday seekers flock to this Mediterranean heaven for their great escape to a land of inspiring relaxation.
