Extreme Sporting Activities

Looking to go beyond your comfort zone on your next holiday? Here are some options that will push you to your physical and mental extremes. Needless to say, these activities should only be undertaken in safe conditions with a professional guide or supervisor:

Skydiving
Jumping out of a plane is one of the most extreme activities you can do. Flying towards the ground from 30,000 feet can be a hair-raising activity and without careful planning, you could end up going “splat” (though that’s rare). Simply put, it’s one of the best adrenaline rushes you can find. If you can jump out of a plane, you can probably overcome just about any fear.

Bungee Jumping
Bungee jumping involves you tying an elastic cord around your feet and jumping off a bridge or crane-like structure. You’ll feel a tremendous rush of blood to the head as you plummet towards the ground, only to be suddenly pulled away and back like a human yo-yo.

Base Jumping
Base jumping is a sport involving the use of a parachute to jump from fixed objects. It’s illegal in most places however because it’s extremely dangerous. Jumping off a skyscraper in a crowded area doesn’t provide a big margin for error. One stiff breeze and you’ll find yourself wishing you were Spider-Man. The sport requires a unique skillset that provided you have ideal timing and conditions, can be a bigger rush than skydiving or bungee jumping. It’s also a great way to make an entrance at your next party!

Bull Running
Running from deadly animals can be a blast until they gore you half to death. Every year in Pamplona, Spain, thousands of people run from charging bulls just for fun. It’s not always fun when it turns deadly. This year a few people were charged by the impressive animals and suffered serious injuries. It’s better to enjoy the party atmosphere but if you want to test the runner in you, by all means, jump into the fray!

Cave Diving
A twist on the normal scuba diving activity, cave divers explore underwater caves. These caves extend for miles in absolute darkness. One wrong turn and you’re fish food. However, for those daring enough to explore these underwater caverns, you’ll find an extraordinary array of life that is unseen near the surface.

Ice Climbing
Ice climbing is all about scaling frozen ice cliffs and mountaintops. Usually, ice climbing refers to roped and protected climbing structures like icefalls, frozen waterfalls, cliffs and ice-covered rocks. You can do it anywhere in the world where it’s cold enough. The key is to make sure the ice is secure - otherwise one crack of the axe and you’ll be ice falling.

Scuba Diving
Though you might not consider it an extreme activity, there’s enough potential hazards to consider it extreme. Getting lost in the sea, nitrogen build-up (the bends), or a close encounter with a deadly animal can have you rethinking this “mundane” activity. It’s wildly exciting though and will give you a new perspective on acquatic life. There are many great diving spots in the world.

Motocross
Motocross is refers to all-terrain vehicle racing held on closed off-road circuits. Riding over sand dunes, wet, rough, and hilly terrain, makes motocross an extreme activity requiring a lot of physical endurance, good coordination, and a sturdy helmet. You’ll by flying off sand dunes and racing around like a little kid before you know it. Those bikes go fast so just make sure you have control over the speed and always wear your helmet!
