Five Unique Attractions in Singapore

Known by most as just an exclusive shopping destination, Singapore offers an astounding number of activities that will make you forget all about those designer brands and technological marvels. Hidden behind the city’s towering skyscrapers, lies a series of natural and man-made wonders you simply must discover on your vacation to Singapore:

Night Safari

Night Safari in Singapore

Unlike traditional zoo facilities, the Singapore Night Safari reveals 1040 animals of 120 species and their behavior during the night time. The lighting is a bit brighter than natural moonlight, so visitors can distinguish the animals, but it’s dim enough not to disturb them.

The Night Safari occupies 40 hectares of a tropical rainforest and you can either take the tram or walk between its eight different sections. It’s recommended you go see the big cats first, as they tend to gobble up their food quickly and go to sleep for the rest of the night. More than 1.1 million people visit the world’s first nocturnal zoo every year.

Volcano Land

The Eruption!

It’s not every day you can embark on a journey to the center of the Earth and find yourself in the middle of a volcano eruption, so you have to make the best of your trip to Volcano land, on Singapore’s Sentosa Island. After you discover the secrets of a lost city, in an Indiana Jones-style adventure, step into the Pit Cage and descend into the very bowels of our planet.

Once they reach rock bottom, visitors will get the chance to explore the subterranean caves, wondrous places full of fossils and bones dating back to prehistoric times. This unforgettable Jules Verne experience ends with a bang, as the earth begins to shake and lava gushes out of a 20 meters high volcano.

Butterfly Park

Singapore - Sentosa Island - Butterfly Park

One of the most popular attractions in Singapore, Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom introduce you to a world of living colors and creepy crawlies. As deforestation rendered many species of insects extinct, the government of Singapore decided to protect them by building a haven that imitates their natural habitat.

Over 50 species of butterflies and 3,000 rare insects call Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom their home and tourists have the opportunity to approach and closely examine them. Witnessing the birth of a butterfly as they come out of their tiny eggs at the Pupa Hut is a unique and unforgettable experience.

Underwater World

Underwater World Singapore sets itself apart from other oceanariums through its unique interactive attractions, like Meet-the-Dolphin, where visitors enter a pool and play with Humpback dolphins. Singapore’s first doctor fish spa and the stingray feeding pool also offer unique experiences.

Singapore Flyer

Singapore Flyer, Singapore

Famous as the world’s tallest observation wheel, the Singapore Flyer lifts you 165 meters into the air and treats you to a breathtaking view of Singapore City and beyond. Opened to the public in 2008, the Flyer features 28 capsules, each capable of carrying 28 passengers.

Although it’s 30 meters taller than the famous London Eye, the Singapore Flyer is definitely not as successful. Most Singaporeans believe a 30 minute ride is definitely not worth the S$29.50 fair, but it would be a shame to travel to Singapore and not take a ride in the world’s biggest Ferris Wheel.
