I've read about the Hindu godesses but I didn't know they worshipped living people. They have about a dozen little girls in Nepal that are 'living incarnations' of the Hindu godesses called Kumari(s).
Yah, I know about them. Heard when one of those came to Washington to promote something she got sacked as goddess. I think it had to do with a documentary about the tradition.
There was a big controversy over that visit mate. The goddess, Sajani Shakya, was sacked for visiting Washington because they said was an impious act and then with the hype created about it in the media, I think last I heard they'd gone back to worshipping her.
I read something about that in ‘The Raj Quartet’ by Paul Scott. They have an aversion for the higher caste people travelling abroad in the Hindu religion perhaps. Scott seemed to think they need to bathe in cow pee to become pure again. Cows are sacred in the religion but I wouldn’t believe that about the urine unless a Hindu said so.
Very enlightening discussion which forced me to read more. the selection process is quite tough and also the fact that the moment you bleed, even slightly, you are out of the house means a very protected and and secluded kind of life.
What I don't understand is that why do they become unlucky after the end their tenure??? They were godesses

Hold on! Cow pee can make a person pure again as far as the Hindus are concerned?
