The 'masala' (spice) of life, I was told, is in this region And the spice in their food is the spice they love in their lives. Has anyone been to the region? Or tried their cuisine? I personally love their rice dish ‘Biryani’ and a rather heavy snack, ‘pakora’
South Asian Cuisine can be especially hard on the gentle palettes that are not used to eating such spicy foods. A friend of mine went there for 3 weeks and had to go through lengthy medical examinations on his return. He got so sick that doctors thought he might have colon cancer. No wonder he screams at the mention of south Asia:D
Agreed, the food is fun to eat but hard to digest. It is popular though a proof is the new Mcdonald 'Tandori chicken' burger.....IF Mac goes tandori it must really be in
I went to Pakistan once and the food was ok. You don't actually have to eat every thing HOT. It is possible to get stuff that is not tooo spicy but I am not sure if I prefer it over my sushi though. I prefer my food on the raw side. That cuisine to me is more about cooking till there is nothing much left in the there but oil and spices; at that point almost everything starts looking the same and tasting the same..........
I have actually had a lot of Asian food in the restaurants here and they boast the original taste of the land. The nihari, a meat dish with thick gravy, for example, has enough spice to make your eyes water but if you check their deserts they are actually too sweet. So they probably like extremes.
I went to an Indian restaurant in Massachusetts while I was visiting friends and they served the main course in quantities I could not imagine eating in one meal. Then the desert was something I don’t remember the name of but I would recognise it anywhere. It was small ball shaped brown dough in syrup and it was very sweet. I only ate a little and decided it was not my type of sweet. There was an ice cream too, it was different from the usual flavours and they called it kulfi. That was great. I would enjoy that any time!
