Topic says it all. I am aware it differs with the activities but what do you think would be a good rule of the thumb for daily expenses?

100$ if you're going to Tokyo and 10$ if you're going to Bangkok. Thats how different it can be for the day depending on where you are spending. Going to India would be a cheaper vacation than a trip to London!

There are ways to save if you ask me. If its a backpacking holiday there are sooo many ways to save, harder if you are with kids and family though. Just for instance, use the week long passes for the subways instead of buying one every time, or buying one every day. It does depend on how long you are staying but the small things add up.

I don't know about budgets, I've had some lousy luck with travels, I had my wallet stolen in Austria and only had 15$ to spend left with me. I made it back home alright, just depends on how much you have at that time perhaps too. I've heard people say standing in long lines at the customs saves money too since you'd be out shopping otherwise!

You know what, it should not be more than 40-50 Euros a day if you have any control over your expenditure. Its more fun that way too, there are days when you spend those couple of Euros more and you think I have to save the next day. I've skipped a meal or two once in a while and then treated myself later with the savings and had a blast with it.

It really depends where you're going. But I really believe in making ends meet. You know what I mean? Do with what you have. You'll be amaze how you could spend a little and experience so much.
