I would like to see more topics around here that give insight in to people's thinking, so here goes one:
Are you an adventurer through and through or do you end up planning your adventures.....like my mum:D
I love just heading out and letting life take its course (in a way), but maybe thats cause I haven't yet past 30:P

Unplanned is best but I always get tempted to visit historical sites and monuments and while most modern monuments mean you get to stay at hotels etc during the trip, it is most enjoyable to visit places like the ruins in North America because the camps you get to stay in are not your everyday hotels. It is a different lifestyle altogether and staying in wooden cabins and lights out at eleven has its own charm.

When I am on my own or with my partner, we love to just plan something on the spur of the moment. Mostly our weekend getaways are unplanned. With a group, its always better to be prepared; trust me you don't want to end up in a situation where someone is constantly complaining about stuff and turning the trip in to a hellish experience. Overseas trips also I tend to plan, as to where to stay and how to get there but the days and nights can be spent as desired... I would call it safe planning:D

I would agree with hotrod on this one. Mum has to 'PLAN', comes with the job description.
My trips, or any trip I am involved with, are planned way in advance. The only trip I remember that we didn't plan was our honeymoon:D.......and that one, traditionally, is supposed to be a planned one

When I'm taking someone along, I like it so only I know where we are headed. I take care of the things we will need and the arrangements are made in advance so my family has no inkling but that comes with knowing what people around you like or not. Can't take kids along and not know what they will like to take along...that would be a super flop trip because it will start and end with complaints.

I think we have probably missed the real meaning of the word adventure. Dictionary says it means undertaking involving unknown risks.......how can you plan for unknown risks??? What most of us have talk about till now are vacations not adventures.........i think

Good point.....OK lets rephrase the question:
Have you ever had an adventure or are you too well prepared to get in to any such situation??

wow, that spam poster is all over the forum, and its not even English so I don't understand.

Not that it was totally unplanned, but I have been to a mountain resort where the snow kept us from getting back the day we planned, so it became a sort of an adventure; finding a place to stay at without reservations during peak season! A nightmare, or an adventure, whichever way you want to put it.

I'm wondering why would people go during the peak season. If you ask me, I go to the resort on "almost" peak season. Actually, I based my vacations and travels on the weather. I think people should start to consider that too, not really rely on what travel agencies say so.
