I plan on visiting the ice hotel in Qubec next month. Wondering how they stay warm in there though. I'll be going only to look, but I am still hoping I can save and spend a night there too. Its something I'd want to do at least once...hmm...maybe a good honeymoon treat too!
Sounds really good. I've read some about them here. Though I do think there are more of ice hotels around and some of the pictures I've seen of them are stunning. The sculptures especially.
haha...a perfect honeymoon getaway if either you are the cold type or want to cool down your partner's emotions a bit.....a real cool honeymoon.
The only ice hotel I have seen was in James Bond's Die another day. The hotel in the movie was inspired by the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Kiruna, Sweden. Though the movie is filmed in Iceland and after the movie a lot of people went to Iceland to stay at the hotel but ALAS!!! that was only in the movie, as Iceland is not cold enough for that kind of structure.....hehe
I have read about them using animal skins to keep the body head from melting beds (and from people catching colds, I guess). The pictured I looked up showed beds made of ice too, which is fascinating. Comes down to being able to save up for it though.
I've seen that ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi. It was expensive but I thought it was really cool, literally. Though paradoxically, you don't feel too cold once you're inside. The guy showing us around said they make the hotel anew every year!
A little different but there are glass igloos in Finland some 80 km from the Russian border. Staying there the night is like spending the night under the open sky. You just don't freeze like you'd do out in the open.
