The coastal city of Gold Coast is a high-profile tourist destination for all the Australian and overseas beach lovers. The famous white beach of Surfers Paradise is just one of the beaches one can enjoy under the Australian sun, on the Gold Coast.
There are over 40 kilometers and more than 30 beaches to see and swim in. The area became famous in the 1950s, once with the establishment of the Surfers Paradise, about an hour by car, south of Brisbane. Nowadays, this 3 kilometers long beach is the hub of leisure activities in the area and it can get very crowded in the high-season. The best alternative would be Broadbeach, not that crowded and surely quieter.
For unique surf experiences, the best surfers recommend Snapper Rocks, situated right on the Queensland-New South Wales border. The waters of this beach host competitions like the annual Roxy Pro and Quicksilver Pro. Currumbin and Kingscliff are the best options for swimming, while Wavebreak Island is considered to be the best beach for the families, due to its golden sand and small waves.
But besides the sunny beaches, the water parks, the amazing bistros, restaurants and bars one can find in every corner, there are many other attractions on the Gold Coast, as well. Amusement parks like Warner Bros. Movie World or Dreamworld are two of the most popular amusement parks in the area.
The city is also surrounded by national parks, forest reserves and protected rain-forests. The Natural Bridge, part of the Springbrook National Park, is an unusual geological feature. Home to the amazing glow-worms, that glow after sunset, these basalt formations are something you won’t expect to see near the Gold Coast.
The best time to visit the Gold Coast is between October and March, when the temperature of the water grows and the beaches get packed with tourists.
