Wouldn’t it be great if you could visit all of France’s greatest monuments in just one day? Well, unless you have a problem with seeing them in miniature size, all you have to do is take a trip to Miniature France Park, in Elancourt.
Open to the public since 1991, Miniature France is a 5 ha theme park where tourists from around the world can see all the greatest French landmarks and monuments as 1/30 scale models. The park has the shape of France and all the miniatures are placed in about the same locations they appear on the country’s map. The models may be small but their detail is simply amazing, making you believe the structures were somehow shrunk and put on display.
You can start your tour of Miniature France in the capital of Paris, visiting the not-so-tall Eiffel Tower, the famous Notre Dame Cathedral or the “giant” Stade de France Stadium and then work your way to whichever part of France you find most interesting. There are over 150 miniature attractions to check out in Elancourt, but they are all so beautiful that you’ll wish there were more.
Miniature France Park has 60,000 people models, 20,000 small trees, 5 rivers and 2 lagoons representing the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. A system of toy trains that runs through the park and the boats floating on the water, make the theme park look more alive. It is the largest, most beautiful miniature park in Europe.
If admiring France’s monuments from the outside is not enough and you would like to have a look at the intricate interior decorations of places like Versailles Palace or Maxim’s Paris, Miniature France Park offers a gallery of over 50 amazingly detailed miniature interior models. This alone is worth a visit.
Unfortunately Miniature France Park in Elancourt is not a very popular tourist destination on the French travel map, as it doesn’t get the same coverage amusement parks like Euro Disney do. And it’s a shame because unlike other, more popular attractions, Miniature France is educational, relaxing and fun, all at the same time.
The miniature park of Elancourt is accessible by personal car or public transportation (bus or train), sports two charming restaurants that serve regional dishes, a number of souvenir shops that sell regional products, and is open from February until November.
