Beyond the vast and rocky areas in the North West of Southern Africa, the fields are easily leaning down for discovering one of the ageless natural masterpieces: an old sea of sand, having the color of a peach and looking like it never ends. This is Kalahari, a titanic territory on the African continent – the longest surface of sand, unbroken by areas with rocks and gravel, like one can see in Sahara.

Having an unrealistic beauty, along with its immensity and being prehistoric in its structure and culture, The Kalahari Desert covers almost the whole territory of Botswana. The people that live here call it Kgalagadi, meaning wilderness – a region so large, so isolated and old, that it hides ancient secrets of civilizations from more than half a million years ago.

Kalahari’s sands are the home and the hunting territory of the oldest civilization on Earth – the San people. They are living nowadays the same way they were living 25,000 years ago. In the caves and on the rocks of the Tsodilo, in the Northern parts of the desert, not less than 2,750 paintings in 200 places are representing proof of their longevity.

Kalahari is the perfect example of Nature’s force. Its the most creative combination of fire, wind, water and sand. In the dry season, Kalahari is almost waterless and the battle for surviving is getting rough, not just for the animals but for the humans as well. The San people are digging in the dry riverbeds for water and if they find it, they are storing it in ostrich eggs. If they don’t find anything, they are extracting the water from the stomachs of the antelopes they are hunting.

With more than 50 Celsius degrees daily, more than 46 mammals bigger than the jackals are living in this 900,000 sq km area. Seeing the sights of the Safari, along with its amazing animals and friendly people, it sure is a once in a lifetime experience. The colors one can see in this natural wonders cannot be described or represented by anything or anyone.
