5 Amazingly Romantic Boutique Hotels

For those of you who aren’t in the know, a boutique hotel is a small, intimate, luxurious hotel environment offering personalized service and accommodations that usually rival those offered by large chains. Boutique hotels became popular in the 1980s when they began appearing in major cities around the world.

Boutique hotels tend to be small – averaging anywhere from 3 to 50 rooms, and can be classic, contemporary, or just plain quirky. Similar to a bed and breakfast, though not quite the same, your average boutique hotel will make you feel welcome and appreciated throughout the duration of your stay.

With that in mind we set out to find the five best boutique hotels in the country where couples can spend a romantic trip together. Here are the boutique hotels we found.

5. Washington Jefferson Hotel (New York City)

The Washington Jefferson Hotel in New York City is chic, sophisticated, and contemporary. You’ll enjoy spending your time in New York here, whether you plan to visit for a weekend, a week, or longer. The rooms are casually decorated and are filled with useful contemporary amenities as well.

The hotel has a mere 135 rooms and is situated only a few blocks away from the city’s theater district, a myriad of popular museums, Times Square, and more. For your dining pleasure the on-site restaurant prepares fresh Japanese Sushi on a daily basis. If sushi isn’t your thing you may also enjoy winding down in the cozy bar at the end of the day.

4. Nine Zero Hotel Boston – A Kimpton Hotel (Boston)

The Nine Zero Hotel Boston is an example of a larger hotel chain attempting to form a sub-brand and take over a part of the boutique hotel market. Part of the Kimpton Hotel chain, Nine Zero is situated in the heart of Boston and is a perfect destination for couples looking to enjoy a romantic hotel stay while they’re in town to explore.

Not far from Nine Zero you’ll find Boston Commons, Quincy Market, and the Broadway Theater. The Spire Restaurant, located on-site, services a broad menu of casual fare and is situated next to the hotel bar as well. This hotel will make you feel as though you’re right at home for the duration of your stay.

3. Harvest Inn (Napa Valley)

In the heart of wine country you’ll find the Harvest Inn in St. Helena. The beautiful estate sits on eight acres of ground where visitors are encouraged to wander, relax, and enjoy a leisurely getaway.

Book your stay here over a weekend and you’ll be able to take advantage of a Friday or Saturday evening wine tasting, but don’t despair if you’re only able to visit during the week. The Rutherford Hill Winery is only a few miles away and visitors will enjoy not only spectacular wines but breathtaking views of the entire valley as well.

2. Hotel Valencia Riverwalk (San Antonio)

The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk is a bit larger than your standard boutique hotel but is situated in one of the artsy districts of San Antonio. A few steps outside the hotel will put you into the historic Riverwalk section of the city where you’ll find yourself faced with several theaters, off-Broadway shows, symphonies, museums, and more. Make sure you catch a show at the famous San Antonio Majestic Theater while you’re there, too!

Back at the hotel you’ll enjoy a number of modern amenities, including 7-layer beds, Egyptian-cotton bed sheets, and a quiet spa. This is one contemporary hotel you’ll never forget.

1. Planters Inn on Reynolds Square (Savannah)

In the heart of Savannah, Georgia you’ll find the stunning Planters Inn on Reynolds Square. There’s no boutique hotel quite as stunning, warm, or friendly. With only 60 rooms, the staff at Planters Inn is dedicated to making your stay as comfortable as possible, whether you found yourself in the area for business or pleasure.

Planters Inn is located in Savannah’s Historic Landmark District. You’ll find yourself within walking distance of several local attractions and those that aren’t close enough are only a brief cab ride away. After exploring the area, make sure you head back to the Olde Pink House restaurant found within the hotel. The American cuisine served here is delicious, to say the very least!

There’s no doubt about it. The smaller the hotel you choose the more likely you are to receive stellar personalized service. If you’re looking to enjoy a romantic vacation without the stress of being in a large scale chain hotel, make sure you find a boutique in the area you’re preparing to visit. It’ll be an experience you’re glad you were able to have!

Great post, I am curious whether do you have any suggestion for Chicago boutique hotel. That would be great to go spend weekend at boutique hotel to unwind the mind and boy from all stress.

@Leo

I’ve stayed at the Amalfi Hotel Chicago which was great and in a really nice position to walk around to a lot of the attractions in Chicago. The Amalfi is fairly close to the river, which I recommend taking a walk along during the warmer months (avoid it when the wind is around!).

I’ve also heard some good things about Hotel 71 Chicago and the Affinia Hotel Chicago, but I haven’t had a chance to stay in either of them just yet.
