Somebody Lost Inspiration : 10 Worst Hotel Names

Some hotel owners shouldn’t name their children, let alone their hotels. The following hotels have most unfortunate names we have come across. If the name of the hotel would say everything about the accommodations, then you should probably avoid the following 10 hotels. If you have any other hotel names the list doesn’t include, feel free to add yours.

1. Elephant Butte, Elephant Butte – If you were expecting some large booty, you won’t find it here. The name “Elephant Butte” is derived from the name of an eroded core of an ancient volcano. Still, most of us would think twice before staying in Elephant Butte. The hotel is located in the city with the same name, a city in New Mexico popular for having the biggest lake in New Mexico. At the Elephant Butte Lake you can practice all kinds of water sports or fishing, making it a year-round destination due to its mild climate.

2. Step Back Inn, Aztec – You can’t get more hospitable than that. It’s a hotel where, according to the name, you would want to come back again and again. Step Back Inn is located in historic downtown rural Aztec, Colorado and built in a Victorian style, decorated American antique replicas.

3. Kandahar the Lodge, Whitefish – Don’t expect any guns, tanks or angry rebels. Contrary to what the name suggests, Kandahar is an elegant and casual lodge atop Big Mountain. Visitors get to enjoy snowboarding, snowmobiling, world-class skiing and several outdoor activities in the summer.

4. Black Butte Ranch Resort, Black Butte – It’s not the ranch where hommies come to chill. Located near the town of Sisters in Central Oregon, the ranch is located amongst seven Cascade peaks, near abundant wildlife and offering plenty of recreational activities such as golf, cycling or swimming.

5. Arsenic and Old Lace Bed and Breakfast, Eureka Springs – Did you like the move? Then you probably would like the hotel, even if one would think twice using a poison to name their hotel. Even though the name is not that attractive, the location certainly is – nestled in Victorian town, on a wooden hillside in St. Charles.

6. French Lick Resort and Casino, French Lick, IN – Located in Orange County, Indiana, the French Lick city was originally a French trading post, hence part of the name. The other part of the name is unaccounted for, but you can also think of it as a bad choice. The town has some rejuvenating sulfur springs that made it famous throughout the country as a spa resort. Oddly enough, the city is also the place where the famous laxative Pluto Water was made or where 7up is bottled.

7. Thong Lo Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand – Thong Lo is not a sleazy Thai join, it’s merely the name of a road in the Watthana district, Bangkok, Thailand. The hotel carrying the city’s name is a four star complex, with several deluxe facilities such as a sauna or a business center. If you were thinking twice about staying in a hotel with such an odd name, you shouldn’t – it’s one of the city’s top accommodations.

8. U-Thong Inn, Ayutthaya, Thailand – it might seem that something got stuck in the back door, but thong is a common name in Thailand. The hotel is located in Thailand’s old capital, Ayutthaya, with many temples and palaces to be visited. According to the website’s hotel, at U-Thong Inn, you will surely feel the warmth of the people – way of life in Thailand.

9. Sleep Inn Horn Lake, Horn Lake – Don’t expect to actually sleep in a horn, but the name is sure suggests that. Located in the Oceanside Region of Vancouver Island, the hotel hosts tourists that want to explore the camping, canoeing, or other outdoor activities. It is also a great place for camping, cave exploring and great summer activities.

10. Old Barn Resort, Preston – You won’t get blown away by the comfort, but it’s the real country experience. The Old Barn Resort nestled in the heart of Bluff Country, Minnesota, is a 200-acre property with golf courses, restaurants, bars, a huge campground and a hostel. There are several outdoor activities available, caves and even Amish communities to explore.

A hotel is an establishment that provides paid lodging on a short-term basis. The provision of basic accommodation, in times past, consisting only of a room with a bed, a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with modern facilities, including en-suite bathrooms and air conditioning or climate control. Additional common features found in hotel rooms are a telephone, an alarm clock, a television, and Internet connectivity; snack foods and drinks may be supplied in a mini-bar, and facilities for making hot drinks. Larger hotels may provide a number of additional guest facilities such as a restaurant, a swimming pool or childcare, and have conference and social function services. Hotels rooms are usually numbered to allow guests identify their room.

If you have never been to the Old Barn Resort you should not criticize it. I am orignially from that area .. it is a charming resort and the name sums it up . Most normal people are not offended it by it. Do some better research before you start being so critical. It is a rural farming community. I can tell your from the city and consider yourself to be very ” Cultural ” but you are not. I have resided in the city and the country and probably have more culture and am well rounded in my social skills then you ever will be. People who live in both area’s tend to have more tact and social skills then those who have only lived in 1 type of setting.

That’s the wrong picture for Elephant Butte! I live there (Elephant Butte, NM) and that butte pictured above is certainly not here! Our butte is in the middle of a lake. The butte can be seen from Dam Site Resort. :)
