In the region of Catalunya or Catalonia, in Spain, one can find one of the most impressive examples of the Mediterranean landscape, culture, life and style. Catalonia is different from other similar regions in Spain, since it has a different language, people that price their authenticity and traditions, but also a cosmopolitan, modern and European style of living. Catalunya is not just Barcelona, the most famous city in the region, but also about other wonderful cities and breathtaking beaches. Tarragona is just one of them.
Tarragona was built by Romans and in their times it was the most elegant city on the Iberian Peninsula. One can also admit that in our times, this title is still adequate. Tarragona’s main promenades are called Rambla, just like in Barcelona. Here you can see the wonderful modernist buildings in the city, spread throughout archaeological sites. This thriving city is centered around Rambla Nova and it ends with amazing suburban zones with apartment blocks, that surround the Roman vestiges like the Forum and the Theater. These Roman artifacts are protected by UNESCO.
Tarragona is a city that can be explored by foot. The Cathedral is one of the main attractions of the city, representing the highest point of the Old Town. The walls of this old city is standing proof of the centuries of history and of the great importance of Tarragona during time. Walk around these walls and afterward enjoy a snack on Rambla Nova or in the Placa de la Font.
And if you’re into beaches, tanning and laying under the sun all day long, Tarragona has so many options. In the southern part of the city you can find beaches like L’Arrabassada’ or L’larga. Also, in the north of the city there is a nice shoreline, about 6-7 kilometers long, with more than five large beaches and several small ones.
