How far would you go to make sure your skin looks nice and healthy even when your youth will be nothing more than a distant memory? It might surprise you but many people spend serious amounts of money on seemingly stupid spa treatments that they believe work wonders on their complexion. Here are the world’s five weirdest spas:
5. Beer Spa – Austria Germany, Czech Republic

Bathing in beer doesn’t have to be a fantasy anymore. A number of spas in Western Europe offer beer-lovers the chance to get soaked in their favorite drink and get a beauty treatment in the process. It seems the vitamins in the beer do a great job of cleaning and drying the skin.
Every spa uses different kinds of brew, brought in from nearby breweries, especially prepared for bathing. Therapeutic lager contains around 2% alcohol, yeast malt and hops. While you’re sitting back in the tub, you’re welcome to ask for a glass of the local brew, just to make sure your insides get the same beauty care.
4. Hakone Kowakien Yunessun – Japan

Beaujolais Nouveau is the most popular wine in Japan and it seems people there love it so much they pay big money just to swim in it. The wine spa at the Hakone Resort opened in 2005 and it was an instant hit. It appears red wine has rejuvenating effect on the body and relaxes the mind.
Apart from the wine-filled-pool, the Kowakien Yunessun features spas where clients can sit back and enjoy a relaxing bath in Sake, green-tea and coffee, each with its unique effects on the skin.
3. Doctor Fish Spa – Turkey, Japan

Spas that use Garra rufa fish as a therapeutic option to treat severe skin diseases like psoriasis originated in Turkey, but as their fame grew, others opened in Asia, Europe and North America. The amazing Doctor Fish are raised and bred in outdoor pools around Turkey, deprived of food for long periods of time so when a patient enters their environment they just swarm in and eat off all the dead skin.
Although their have been cases when the psoriasis patients fully recovered after repeated visits to Doctor Fish spas, this treatment is not considered a cure, just an non-invasive way to cure disease symptoms.
2. Shizuka Day Spa – New York

This Japanese-style spa has become one of New York’s most popular beauty centers by using one of the most bizarre facial treatments on the planet. Beauticians will rub UV-sanitized and powdered nightingale droppings on clients faces, claiming it literally works wonders on their skin.
Nightingale poop was first discovered in Korea and imported in Japan as a dye remover for painted kimonos. Later Kabuki artists started using it to cure the rashes caused by zinc poison in the face paint and discovered it also made their faces smoother. Geishas soon adopted the offbeat treatment and now it’s used in a number of spas across North America.
1. The Snake Spa – Israel

Perhaps the weirdest massage parlor in the world, the Snake Spa has snakes crawling all over the clients’ bodies, including their faces. All the creepy crawlers are non-venomous and if you can bear them slithering on your back, they’re said to alleviate both stress and muscle tension.
Ada Barak, the owner of the Snake Spa, says she got the idea of opening up her unique business when some friends told her about the soothing effect of holding a snake in their hands.
