And many of the most interesting sights and places are free or cheap - most London museums are free, for example. And they have excellent public transport that goes everywhere of interest. Like most large cities, they have a high range, medium range, and low range. Their high range may be much higher than most places, but there are many alternatives. Venice, Oslo, and Zurich are more expensive for visitors since the low-cost options are much more limited. Many US cities are more expensive for visitors than the major European cities - in most US cities you need to rent a car, and also there are a lot fewer cheap accommodation options. It's hard to find any hotel room in New York, San Francisco, or Miami for less than $100, and even a standard-class tourist hotel will usually be $200 or more per night.
