Every year, on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus somehow finds the time to visit the homes of so many good children from all over the world, so it’s only polite that we return the favor at least once. And we have all year round, he’s always there waiting for guests.
Most Americans believe Santa lives at the North Pole, in the Middle of the Arctic Ocean. There’s no land there, although the ice is thick enough to walk on during the winter, so that’s not really a plausible theory. Santa Claus’s official home is in Lapland, Finland, about 8 km northeast of Rovaniemi. Often referred to as the perfect Christmas getaway, Santa Claus Village is visited by thousands of visitors every year, children and adults alike, all eager to meet Santa in person and see the places where the magic happens.
There are plenty of things to do in this Finish theme park, from meeting every child’s favorite senior citizen, to visiting the elves’ workshop and the many Lappish souvenir shops. Tourists visiting the Santa Claus Post Office can check how many letters Santa gets from children all-across the world and can arrange for letters to be sent to friends or family anywhere in the world. The letters are signed by Santa Claus of-course.
Santa Claus himself awaits his visitors at Santa Claus’s Office, where he’s always willing to shake hands, chat and get himself photographed. He is only available for about an hour every day, but that’s understandable. After all, he’s a very busy person.
Santa Claus Village was ranked as the second best Travel Adventure in Finland in 2007 and it still holds that position in 2008. Eleanor Roosevelt herself visited this place back in 1950 and she is recorded as the first official visitor of the area.
One of the main attractions of Santa Claus Village is the Arctic Circle line that passes right through Santa’s home. It is marked and tourist love getting photographed with it.
Visiting Santa Claus Village also gives people a chance to exquisite Lappish cuisine at the Aurora Café & Restaurant, buy all sorts of souvenirs, from Lappish culture memorabilia to expensive Swarowsky crystals. There are no hotels in the village but you can find plenty of great Hotels for Christmas in the neighboring city of Rovaniemi.
