On the French side of the Alps, one can see the most picturesque region in this part of Europe, the perfect place for skiing in the winter and a great resort to spend a warm summer. Val d’Isere and Tignes, the region in the vicinity, gather over 90 ski runs, that are more than 300 kilometers long. In the cold months of the year, Val d’Isere is a real heaven for all the winter sports lovers around the world.

Val d’Isere gets its name from the mythical properties of the snow and the terrain. The home of the Winter Olympic Games in 1992, Val d’Isere has a legendary history of skiing since the village is the birth place of the most famous French alpine ski racer, multiple world and Olympic champion. Naming local areas l’Espace Killy represents a tribute to him. Professional skiers and snowboarders, but beginners and children as well, find the trails of Val d’Isere the most challenging routes in the entire Alps.

The village has a long tradition in working with raw wood and stone, therefore one can admire the splendid and unique architecture of Val d’Isere, all year round. The village has two whole different looks under the snow of the heavy winters and in the warm sunny days of the summer. The “chalet” styles of architecture is combined with numerous restaurants and ski and clothing boutiques and stores. As for the people, most of the sales assistants speak English and the villagers are friendly and helpful, if you make the effort of speaking even a bit of French.

As for thoses that think that you can have no fun in the summer, in the mountains, Val d’Isere demonstrates the opposite. In the summer, sport competitions like archery or mountain biking and cultural events like international music festivals enliven the city life. The resort also offers the possibilities for practicing more than 20 sports in the summer for all the tourists that choose to spend their vacation in these amazing places.
