Monte Carlo was actually created in 1866 and was given its name in order to honor Prince Charles III. Monte Carlo (aka Mount Charles) is a true luxury destination, welcoming visitors from all over the globe as they arrive by car, Heli Air Monte Carlo, or train.

Monte Carlo is not, despite popular belief, a city of its own. It’s an administrative subsection of Monaco and has a population totaling only 3,000 residents. It is well known not for its local traditions but for the lifestyles of the tourists and celebrities who visit regularly.

The relaxing atmosphere is nothing short of glamorous. Low-key visitors will enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year while exploring cultural attractions, art galleries, and some of the areas finest dining establishments. Those who prefer a bit more adrenaline will enjoy the grand prix, gambling, and any of a myriad of water activities.

You certainly aren’t limited to staying within the confines of Monte Carlo during your stay, either. You’ll find you are within close proximity of Nice, where you can explore museums, or Cannes, where you will enjoy incredible shopping opportunities. World-class art galleries such as the Picasso museum and the Meaght Collection are only a short distance away, as are some of the area’s finest perfume factories, ski slopes and markets.

There are, obviously, a few attractions within Monte Carlo you really don’t want to miss while you’re there. Start by heading over to Larvotto Beach where you’ll be able to enjoy an afternoon basking in the sun. The beach here is free, making it the perfect destination for travelers who are moving through Monaco on a budget. Just remember, the beach is made up of small pebbles, so as long as you don’t expect to step on the shores and find yourself sinking into white sand you’ll have an enjoyable experience.

If you’re looking to experience nightlife in Monte Carlo you should definitely find your way in the doors at Jimmy’z. Of course, if the doorman doesn’t like the way you look he might not let you enter, but once inside you’ll be astounded by the gigantic dance floor and incredible disco music. The only drawback is that drinks here are expensive, so either plan to spend a little extra or have a drink at your hotel before you head over.

The Monte Carlo Casino is, of course, one of the most popular attractions in all of Monaco. Famous in its own right, the casino has appeared in several Bond movies (amongst others) and has a reputation for its elegant and extravagant decorations and glamorous atmosphere. Once inside you can either pay 10 EU to enter the floor (with a copy of your passport as proof of age) or simply explore the halls while taking in the incredible marble and bronze adornments.

If you’re willing to explore the areas surrounding Monte Carlo you’ll likely enjoy some of the nearby tourist attractions as well. Monaco is home to the Monaco Cathedral, the Prince’s Palace, and the Napoleon Museum. Each is entertaining, educational, and well worth the visit.

Anyone looking for a luxurious vacation destination – or, at the very least, a place where they can pretend to be glamorous – should head towards one of the incredible hotels in Monte Carlo. Even if you can’t take in all of the local attractions you’ll still enjoy the breathtaking views and atmosphere. It’s a trip you’ll never forget!
