Visiting Paris this Autumn

Thoughts of Paris invoke images of street-side cafes, strolling couples holding hands, and romance. Paris is simply stunning in September and visiting the city in springtime has long been considered the epitome of romantic getaways. Summer still lingers in the air, but the nights are crisper and the trees’ leaves are just beginning to show a hint of autumn color.

Art and Culture
There are many advantages to visiting Paris in September. The summer crowds have diminished, rates and fares have begun to drop and museums and other attractions still hold summer hours.

Events particular to the month of September offer entertainment and sight-seeing not available at other times of the year. The Festival d’Automne — known for its new wave atmosphere — begins in September and runs through December. Theatre, art, literature, music and dance are available at venues throughout the city.

Just outside the city is the Versailles Festival Baroque which presents dance and theatre performances as well as music. Couples can take in L’Opera National de Paris and the Ochestre de Paris which both have special offerings during September. Mid-September heralds Heritage Days, when historic and cultural attractions usually unavailable to the public are opened.
Food and Wine
Paris is a city for food lovers. There are many ways to take advantage of the culinary delights the city has to offer. Food tours are a wonderful way to experience French cuisine at its finest. Tours can be tailored to individual tastes, especially when planned in advance. Couples can visit the finest chocolatiers, bakeries and cheese-makers, or whatever best fits their personal appetites.

Imagine gliding along the waters of the Seine while dining on a delightful French meal. Champagne river tours offer tastings while passengers enjoy watching the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre pass slowly by.
Foodies would enjoy the Historic Left Bank walking tour and wine tasting. For a broad sampling of the exceptional wines Paris has to offer, wine bar tours are a must. Many of the bars have in-house chefs available to prepare an exquisite meal to accompany a couples’ wine of choice. If a full meal is too much, most bars offer simple cheese and bread plates.

Music, theatre, food or wine, Paris in September is a delight for the fortunate couples who visit. Don’t miss it!
