A cosmopolitan city, Copenhagen is not only the largest is Scandinavia, but also Denmark’s capital. Its lakes, canals, and the Baltic Sea are all reminders that it’s been a major port for centuries. If you walk along picturesque Nyhavn Canal, you will find that its old wooden boats and pastel-painted townhouses are reminders of Copenhagen’s maritime history, and delicate church spires still dominate the landscape. However, today, they are also intermingled with numerous pubs, restaurants, and cafes.

Despite its size, modern Copenhagen also projects a charming, small-town atmosphere that will delight any visitor. Its citizens, who seem to enjoy sharing their quality of life, are known to be tolerant and fun-loving, and the city bears countless touches of Scandinavian flair and self-assurance. Since it is quite up-to-date, a good portion of the center is reserved for pedestrians, bicycles outnumber cars in traffic, and anti-pollution laws are strictly enforced.

If you’re in Copenhagen for a long weekend, try taking a ride along the Christianshavn canal to see its well-known landmark, a sculpture about four feet high known as the Little Mermaid. You can also spend your time window shopping on the longest shopping street on the continent, enjoy a delicious meal in the harbor district, and then watch the fireworks at Tivoli Gardens. This central city park is a fairly small area that is also an outstanding entertainment complex, attracting approximately 3 million people during the five-month extended summer season.

Other than these, it’s a fact that while in Copenhagen you shouldn’t miss the fascinating collections of various artifacts related to Denmark’s history from the days of the Vikings to Word War II in the many museums scattered in and around the city, including the National Museum in the Prince’s Palace.
Copenhagen is famous for the art and design to be found in its many museums and galleries, along with its architecture. The most notable collections are to be found at the much-loved Museum of Decorative Arts.

Rosenborg Castle, built in the Dutch Renaissance style, is now a public museum that details the history of the country’s royal family. It is the place where the crown jewels are stored, and the gardens are truly magnificent.

The Christiansborg Palace is noteworthy for both its architecture and its history, and it is made up of several buildings, including its Neo-Baroque core, The prime minister’s office, the supreme court, and the Danish Parliament are all located here, the royal family uses the royal reception rooms and its church, and the view is magnificent.

Located next to the first Lego factory, Legoland Billund is a park that children are sure to enjoy. Its many unique features include Miniland, Imagination Corner, Dupoland, Adventure Land, Logoredo Town, Pirate Land, the Knights’ Kingdom, and Lego City. Its vast array of rides, eateries, and shops has something to suit people of all ages.
At the Denmark Aquarium, visitors can view 300 plus species of marine life from around the world enclosed in more than 70 aquariums. You can find something to eat at the café, be there for the feeding time shows, or have your children enjoy the facility’s “touch pools.”
