The top kid-friendly destination in the world is still Orlando, Florida. It’s tough to beat the otherworldly experience that the professionals at Disneyworld are able to provide. However, Disneyworld represents only a quarter of the parks Disney operates in the Orlando area which makes Orlando the ultimate kid-friendly destination. Disney also operates Epcot Center adjacent to Disneyworld and also, movie-themed MGM Studios, and the animal-themed Animal Kingdom. But Disney isn’t the only theme park operator in Orlando; Universal Studios is also there, Sea World, along with Cypress Gardens, the nature park Silver Springs, and Busch Gardens just outside of Tampa. Families can spend years returning to Orlando with different parks populating their itineraries.
It’s tough for other locations to offer the choices present in Orlando, but there are plenty of other unique ideas that children are sure to enjoy. The Treesort in Takilma, Oregon offers a vacation straight out of the Swiss Family Robinson story. Most of your time here will be spent above ground in the trees in one of 18 different tree houses interconnected by swinging bridges to other platforms, forts and a suspended pirate ship. Time on the ground can be spent in a freshwater swimming pool, watching impromptu skits on the stage, or around the barbecues and campfire site. The Treesort offers unique experiences families are sure to never forget.
Las Vegas has spent two decades working towards evolving into a kid-friendly destination and the work has paid off. Hidden atop the Mandalay Bay Hotel on the Strip is the Four Seasons Las Vegas. The world-renowned luxury hotel chain will indulge children right along with the adults with a welcome gift including child-sized bath robes. Another choice in Las Vegas is the Red Rock Casino located just off the strip. This billion-dollar resort has one end completely dedicated to children’s entertainment with a playground, a multi-screen movie theater, bowling alley, video game arcade and a supervised children’s program called Kids Quest. Kids Quest takes children as young as 6 weeks and as old as 12 for all day long entertainment, including meals.
Located on Paradise Island in the Bahamas is Atlantis, which also offers programs aimed to keep children entertained. There is also a dance club for kids only called Club Rush. Additionally, there are video game arcades and treasure hunts for the kids to take part in. Plus there’s plenty for the family to enjoy together with an on-site 63 acre water park, a climbing wall, frolicking with dolphins in Dolphin Cay, and the world’s largest open-air marine habitat where guests are allowed to feed the marine creatures.
Finally, Legoland has four locations throughout the planet in Denmark (the original), England, California, and Germany. These parks strive to bring the Lego experience to life with themed rides and numerous constructions built entirely of Legos. Children can enjoy water battles at Pirate Shores (bring a towel and dry clothes) and kids and parents alike can marvel at the reproductions of geographical areas in the locale where the Lego park is located, down to an exacting 1:20 scale.
