Stretching out into the sea like a giant tongue of sand, Zlatni Rat is known as Croatia’s most spectacular beach and one of the world’s best surfing destinations. It has also recently been included on a list of strange places from around the globe.

Located on Brac Island, one of the highest islands of the Adriatic, Zlatni Rat is a wonderful golden pebble beach that surrounds a green pine forest. Although it looks amazing, especially when seen from above, beauty isn’t the only thing that makes this place special. As I’ve mentioned above, The Golden Horn has been featured on a list of the strangest travel destinations on Earth, because it changes its shape depending on the wind and sea currents. So, if you’re one of those people who quickly gets bored of going to the same beach every day, Zlatni Rat will make it seem like you’re on a different beach every time.

Though it is not as famous as other beach-destinations around the old continent, during the summer, the 580-meters-long pebble shingle can barely accommodate the thousands of tourists that arrive here from all over the world. Many of them are surfers looking to experience “The Maestral”, a summer wind that makes Zlatni Rat the best windsurfing destination of the Adriatic Sea.

The Golden Horn is a great summer destination for the entire family, offering a wide range of water sports, including jet-ski, SSI scuba-diving, banana boats, as well as parachute rides, beach volley and many other fun things. For those who just want to relax, away from the scorching sun rays, the nearby pine forest represents a perfect retreat.

Close to Zlatni Rat lies the charming village of Bol. Isolated from the other settlements on Brac Island by an 800-meters-high mountain ridge, Bol stretches along the southern waterfront, so wherever you’re housed, you’ll never find yourself too far from the clear blue water of the Adriatic. Walking through the narrow alleys, past the village’s old stone houses, is a great way to enjoy a quiet, almost intimate setting and discover Croatian culture and way of life.

Whether you’re looking for recreation or a vacation full of fun activities, you can’t go wrong by choosing to visit the unique Zlatni Rat.
